The Black Owls

Black Owls sound has been defined as dark optimism, Punk Amish, and a dead tree dancing in the wind. With influences ranging from vintage Stones to Talking Heads, Clash, MC5, Bowie, Animals, Mott & the Hoople to Devo & the Ramones. Lyrically reminiscent of Jim Carroll or Lou Reed, there is a sophisticated undertone to the fabled trailer witches, silver morons, astronauts of nothing, and altered statesmen that frequent the verse. Stylistically, the music swells, rages, stops and starts on "floor tom-centric" beats and punk-surf-blues guitars. Clash-esque anthems flow into elongated hypnotic jams, melding the classic stadium sound to a garage band attitude. The 3 members call upon years of experience to bring about a super-charged, head-swinging, hip-thrusting, live show. The sound is profoundly intoxicating and tight, obviously well-loved and crafted. Although they refer to themselves as a Mennonite pub band, they'd be at home on the big stage.
